Here are 8 “luxury” backpacking items I say “To hell with the weight!” and pack anyway.

PS — I included the overalls that I’m wearing in the video at the bottom of this post!

8 Luxury Items I Always Take Backpacking

Chaco Women’s Chillos Slide Sandal

Purple sandals

Having camp shoes for your overnight trip is a must — I don’t care what anyone says.

Luckily with the Chaco Chillos, you don’t have to choose between comfort and weight. These sandals weigh practically nothing, dry almost instantly, and will give your feet the escape they need after a long day of hiking.

Nemo Foam Seat Pad

Multi-colored seat pad from Nemo

A great lightweight sit pad to have on hand while camping, hiking, or backpacking. A sit pad is lighter and has more uses than even the lightest of backpacking chairs.

I always pack it along, just in case.

Eno Sub6 Ultralight Hammock

Orange lightweight hammock

Never leave the hammock behind — you never know when you’re going to stumble upon the perfect hammocking spot. Luckily, this one is compact and doesn’t bog you down with weight.

PS — Don’t forget to also purchase the Helios Straps.

Sea to Summit X-Brew Collapsible Coffee Dripper

Black collapsible coffee pour over

I’d rather carry 10 extra pounds on my backpacking trip than have to wake up in the woods without coffee. This collapsible dripper is lightweight, folds down to almost nothing, and makes sipping fresh ground coffee in the backwoods a breeze.

Sirui 52″ Aluminum Alloy Tripod

Black travel tripod

My tripod is definitely the heaviest and bulkiest luxury item I bring camping, but what can you do? For the price point, it’s a great lightweight and relatively compact tripod. One day, I’ll splurge on the Peak Design Travel tripod, but that day isn’t today.

A Good Book!

Queen of Shadows book covers

Would it make more sense to backpack with a Kindle? Yes.

But, if I’m already knee-deep in a series like I am Throne of Glass, I’m going to bring the book, no matter how big or bulky. There’s nothing better than setting up camp and settling into your book until dinner. Well worth the weight and space.

InfinityLab InstantGo 10000 Power Bank

Cell phone power bank

Honestly, for a quick 2-3 day backpacking trip I won’t bother bringing my Power Bank but for anything longer, I like to have it on hand, just in case.

For its size, this Power Bank does a great job holding charge and can help me juice up my watch, camera, or phone in the event I need it.

REI Multi Towel Mini

Green mini quick dry towel

It is so nice to have a quick dry towel on hand for washing your face, drying dishes, your hands, etc. You never know when you might appreciate a towel and this one always comes in clutch.

As a bonus it’s so small and light you won’t even know you packed it.

KAVU San Blas Overalls

Black overalls

I love these overalls so much I own them in 4 colors… they’re that good! I am 5’8″, weigh 135 lbs, and wear a size Medium!
